It was good to hear what you want from your retirement. This report is my advice. It sets out what you told me, what I recommend, why, what it costs and what could go wrong. I've tried to keep it clear and free of jargon. Where I use a technical term, I explain it. Please read it alongside the illustration and key features document I've enclosed. I recommend moving your Harbour Life and Northfield pensions into one Meridian Personal Pension. It supports flexible withdrawals instead of requiring an annuity. northlight / pension review Summary of my advice What you want You want to stop work on 14 March 2027 and take about £1,500 a month gross until your State Pension starts in March 2032. You want flexible withdrawals rather than an annuity, one pension to manage, and anything left to go to Emma. What I recommend I recommend transferring your Harbour Life and Northfield pensions into a Meridian Personal Pension for flexible drawdown. I recommend investing the combined pension in the Northlight Balanced portfolio. Why Bringing your two pensions into one plan gives you flexi-access drawdown, so you can take the income you want from March 2027 and adjust withdrawals rather than buy an annuity. The Northlight Balanced portfolio matches your agreed Balanced risk profile and medium capacity for loss, although investment returns and the sustainability of withdrawals are not guaranteed. What you give up Moving your Northfield pension means giving up its lower 0.45% annual management charge, the default fund’s 0.75% charge cap and trustee governance. Neither existing plan has a guaranteed annuity rate or protected tax-free cash or pension age, but moving both as cash transfers also means your money will be out of the market during the transfers. What it costs The initial advice fee is 1.00% (£2,506.31), deducted from the transfers. Illustrated ongoing charges, including advice but excluding estimated transaction costs, are 1.73% (£4,292.56) for the first year, compared with current charges of 0.97% (£2,432.78) a year. northlight / pension review About you You are 61 and widowed; your husband Richard died on 9 November 2021. Your daughter Emma Clarke, 33, is financially independent. She lives in Woking with her husband Tom and their son Leo, aged 2. You work three days a week as a practice manager at Merrow Vale Dental Practice, earning £21,600 gross a year. You plan to stop work on 14 March 2027, your 62nd birthday. You are in good health, take tablets for blood pressure and do not smoke. Although you experienced bereavement in 2021, you are now settled, and no current characteristics of vulnerability were identified. You own your home in Guildford outright; its estimated value is approximately £465,000. You have £38,000 in cash, comprising £14,000 with Nationwide and £24,000 in Premium Bonds, which you want to leave as an emergency reserve. Apart from your pensions, you have no ISAs or other investments. You have no debts or life cover. Your essential spending is £1,150 a month, and you describe your total spending as about £1,500 a month. Your monthly budget also includes £200 for holidays and travel, £100 for family gifts and £50 for eating out, theatre and the gym. Your State Pension forecast is £241.30 a week, or £12,547.60 a year, from 14 March 2032. You want pension withdrawals of about £1,500 a month gross from retirement until then, potentially reducing to £500 a month gross when your State Pension starts. Your 2022 will leaves everything to Emma. You have no lasting powers of attorney, and we suggested arranging them. You want any pension funds left on your death to go to Emma. Northfield still holds an expression of wish naming Richard as its sole beneficiary, so this needs updating; Harbour Life holds no expression of wish. What you want to achieve • Stop work on 14 March 2027 and take about £1,500 a month gross from your pension until your State Pension starts on 14 March 2032; you may then reduce withdrawals to £500 a month gross. • Keep control over how and when you take pension income, rather than buy an annuity. • Bring your Harbour Life and Northfield pensions together in one plan with one login. • Leave any pension funds remaining on your death to your daughter Emma Clarke and update your Northfield expression of wish, which still names Richard. Is there anything that makes things harder for you right now? We asked about your health, any recent life events, your financial resilience and how confident you feel making financial decisions. You told us about your bereavement in 2021 and said you are coping well. No current vulnerability was identified. We will send you the report ahead of the sign-off call so you have time to consider it.

northlight / pension review How you feel about risk Your attitude to risk is how much uncertainty you're prepared to accept for the chance of higher growth. It's personal, and it can change. Because it shapes how your pension is invested for the rest of your life, it matters more than almost anything else in this report. We looked at it three ways: the Northlight risk questionnaire, a conversation about how you've felt and acted when markets have fallen, and your capacity for loss (next section). You completed the risk questionnaire on 12 September 2026, scored 52 out of 100 and were placed in risk group 4 of 7: Balanced. The Balanced profile, risk group 4 of 7, seeks growth above inflation over rolling five-year periods through diversified investments. It involves investment risk, including the possibility of falls of 10% to 20% in a difficult year. You kept your workplace pension invested through the market falls of 2020 and 2022 without selling. You said a 15% fall would not change your plans, and you agreed that Balanced, risk group 4 of 7, describes you well.

You need some investment growth to help support your planned withdrawals of £1,500 a month from March 2027 until your State Pension starts. A less risky approach might reduce short-term falls, but it could provide too little growth to sustain those withdrawals. Whether it would still work has not been established. What a fall could look like On £248,124.61 invested after the initial fee, falls of 10%, 15%, 20% and 30% would mean losses of £24,812.46, £37,218.69, £49,624.92 and £74,437.38, respectively. These illustrate possible falls, not the maximum you could lose. For your agreed Balanced risk group 4 of 7, falls of 10% to 20% in a difficult year are possible . In the past, markets have recovered from falls like these, but there's no guarantee, and it can take years.
northlight / pension review What you know about investing Your investment knowledge and experience are limited to your workplace pension and Premium Bonds, and you are comfortable with someone else managing your investments. You held your workplace pension through the market falls of 2020 and 2022 without selling and said you would not change your plans after a 15% fall. We discussed the risk that falls early in retirement, while you are withdrawing money, could put more pressure on your pension; this was explained using a “pot and bucket” example. Investing responsibly You have no specific sustainability or ESG preferences for this investment.

Your essential spending is £1,150 a month. You intend to leave your £38,000 emergency cash reserve untouched, but it could cover approximately 33 months of essential spending if needed. From March 2027, your planned £1,500 gross monthly pension withdrawal is intended to help meet your spending until your forecast State Pension of £241.30 a week (£12,547.60 a year) begins on 14 March 2032. That State Pension would cover most, but not all, of your current essential spending; pension withdrawals depend on the value of your fund. Cash reserve Your £38,000 emergency cash reserve covers approximately 33 months of essential spending at £1,150 a month. You want to leave this reserve alone. State Pension Your State Pension is forecast to start on 14 March 2032 at £241.30 a week (£12,547.60 a year). Home and debts You own your home outright, valued at approximately £465,000, and have no debts. Your capacity for loss is medium. Your £38,000 emergency reserve covers approximately 33 months of essential spending at £1,150 a month, you have no debts, and your forecast State Pension will cover most essentials from age 67. A substantial fall in your pension could still affect the withdrawals you plan to take before then, so these safeguards do not remove investment risk. Capacity for loss Medium . A substantial fall would not immediately prevent you from paying essential bills: you have a £38,000 emergency reserve, assessed as covering approximately 33 months of essentials at £1,150 a month. You intend to leave that reserve alone, however, and continued withdrawals after a fall could eventually put essential spending at risk.

northlight / pension review Ways to take your pension Option In plain English Flexi-access drawdown Your pension stays invested and you take money out when you want. A quarter is normally tax-free, which you can take all at once or bit by bit. The rest is taxed as income. Nothing is guaranteed and the money can run out. UFPLS Short for uncrystallised funds pension lump sum. You take lump sums straight from your pension, each one normally a quarter tax-free and three quarters taxed. Annuity You swap some or all of your pension for a guaranteed income, usually for life. It's secure, but you normally can't change your mind, and there may be nothing left for your family. Why your current plans don't fit Your Harbour Life Personal Pension, HL-4471-2093, offers annuity purchase only, not flexi-access drawdown or UFPLS. Keeping it would not let you take the flexible withdrawals you want without buying an annuity. Your Northfield Master Trust pension, NMT-00829147, allows UFPLS payments of at least £5,000 or annuity purchase, but not flexi-access drawdown. Its lifestyle fund is de-risking towards annuity purchase at 65, rather than your planned flexible withdrawals from March 2027. Keeping both plans would also conflict with your wish for one pension. Moving your Northfield Master Trust pension means giving up its 0.45% annual management charge, the 0.75% cap on its default fund charge and trustee oversight. The recommended Meridian plan costs 0.73% a year before advice and 1.73% including ongoing advice, excluding transaction costs. Despite that higher cost, Northfield cannot provide flexi-access drawdown; its UFPLS payments have a £5,000 minimum. Moving it with your Harbour Life pension to one plan gives you the phased, flexible withdrawals you want without buying an annuity. Harbour Life also cannot provide flexible withdrawals, offering annuity purchase only.

Its flexi- access drawdown and phased tax-free cash support flexible withdrawals rather than an annuity; neither existing plan offers flexi-access drawdown. Leave whatever remains in the pension to your daughter Emma Clarke. The recommendation records Emma Clarke as 100% pension nominee for the new plan. Update the existing Northfield expression of wish, which still names Richard Winters, regardless of the transfer. A nomination expresses your wishes; payment of pension death benefits remains at the scheme's discretion. Why this pension I compared five pension providers on cost, financial strength, service and retirement options. I recommend the Meridian Personal Pension because it offers flexi-access drawdown with phased tax-free cash, supports the Northlight Balanced portfolio and lets you bring both pensions into one plan, with strong financial strength and service .

Harbour Life offers annuity purchase only; Northfield offers UFPLS, with a £5,000 minimum per payment, or an annuity. Leaving both unchanged would not provide the planned £1,500 monthly drawdown or the one-plan arrangement Sarah wants. Move only one plan Moving Harbour Life alone would leave two plans and retain Northfield's lack of drawdown and £5,000 UFPLS minimum. Moving Northfield alone would retain Harbour Life's annuity-only contract. Keeping Northfield would preserve its lower 0.45% charge, charge cap and trustee governance, but its lifestyle strategy targets annuity purchase at 65 rather than Sarah's planned drawdown. Buy an annuity Sarah expressly does not want an annuity. She wants to control withdrawals, reduce them when her State Pension starts and leave any remaining pension to Emma. An annuity was therefore not quoted. A cheaper plan without ongoing advice A lower-cost, self-managed arrangement would avoid ongoing advice charges, but Sarah reports low investment knowledge and is happy for someone else to manage her pension. The recommended service provides discretionary management and reviews of withdrawal sustainability. It costs more with advice: the brief compares current costs of £2,432.78 a year (0.97%) with £4,292.56 (1.73%) illustrated for Meridian's first-year ongoing charges, excluding transaction costs.

northlight / pension review How your money will be invested I recommend the Northlight Managed Portfolio Service, Northlight Balanced portfolio. It's built for people in risk group 4 , which matches your agreed profile. The portfolios are run for us on a discretionary basis by our investment partner, Harrowden Asset Management. That means their team picks the funds, keeps the mix on target and makes changes without needing to ask you each time. You'll see every change in your quarterly report. Northlight doesn't own Harrowden and gets no payment from them. The Northlight Balanced portfolio targets 12% UK equities, 43% overseas equities, 30% bonds, 7% property, 5% alternatives and 3% cash. Its objective is growth above inflation over rolling five- year periods through a diversified mix of assets, while keeping volatility within the Balanced risk range. How we chose our investment partner We review discretionary managers every year on cost, track record, risk management, and how closely their portfolios stay within their risk bands. A managed portfolio suits your preference for someone else to manage your investments, given your limited investment experience. It provides professional discretionary management of a diversified mix while you take flexible income. The Meridian pension provides the flexi-access drawdown and phased tax-free cash you need to take income while retaining control of withdrawals. You agreed that Balanced, risk group 4 of 7, describes you well; your capacity for loss is medium. The Northlight Balanced portfolio is intended for investors with that risk profile and at least medium capacity for loss who want professional management, may take income and have an investment horizon of five years or more. You held your workplace pension through the falls of 2020 and 2022 without selling and said a 15% fall would not change your plans. The portfolio can nevertheless fall by 10% to 20% in a difficult year, so taking withdrawals while markets fall remains a material risk.

northlight / pension review Your income plan You plan to take £1,500 a month gross through flexi-access drawdown from March 2027. The illustration reduces this to £500 a month gross from March 2032, when your State Pension is due to start. The plan uses phased crystallisation so that 25% of each payment is tax-free. Taking tax-free cash alongside your planned withdrawals, rather than as one upfront lump sum, supports your wish to leave your separate emergency cash untouched. Will it last? Your initial £1,500 monthly gross withdrawal is 7.25% a year of the £248,124.61 invested after the initial fee. This is a demanding withdrawal rate, particularly if markets fall early in retirement: continuing to withdraw while investments are down could reduce how long your pension lasts. The planned reduction to £500 a month when your State Pension starts should ease the pressure, but the withdrawals and fund value will need regular review. You declined a cashflow model, so we have not established that your planned withdrawals will last for life. We considered the provider’s lower-return illustration: after 10 years it shows £127,100 remaining (£104,300 in today’s money), but this is not guaranteed. Taking £1,500 a month initially is a significant withdrawal from your pension, and poor returns early in retirement could make that income harder to sustain. We will review your withdrawal level and the remaining fund as your circumstances and investment returns change. If markets fall early in your retirement, the same income uses up more of your pot. That's why we'll look at your withdrawals with you every year, and may suggest taking less for a while. Your State Pension forecast is £241.30 a week (£12,547.60 a year) from 14 March 2032. The illustration therefore reduces your planned private pension withdrawal from £1,500 to £500 a month gross from March 2032. We will review the amount you need to withdraw when your State Pension begins.
northlight / pension review Tax on your income Under the proposed phased crystallisation, 25% of each £1,500 gross monthly payment is tax- free; the remainder is taxable income and is added to your other taxable income . Your first payment may be taxed on an emergency code. If too much is taken, HMRC normally refunds it. Once you take taxable income, you can only pay £10,000 a year into pensions with tax relief (the Money Purchase Annual Allowance). You do not plan to make further pension contributions, so this is not expected to restrict your current plans. If you decide to contribute again, we should review the limit.

These are illustrations, not guaranteed values. You can stop our ongoing service whenever you like, and the ongoing charge stops with it.

northlight / pension review If you die, and your estate Your pension can go to the people you choose, as a lump sum, an income or both. The provider makes the final decision but follows your expression of wish, so keep it up to date. If you die before 75, your beneficiaries normally pay no income tax on what they receive. From 75, they pay income tax at their own rate. From 6 April 2027, most unused pensions will count towards your estate for inheritance tax. On current figures, your estate is not expected to incur inheritance tax: Richard’s unused nil-rate band is available for transfer, and the residence nil-rate band applies because your home passes to Emma under your will. This could change if your estate or the applicable rules change.

northlight / pension review What could go wrong • Your pension can go down as well as up. You could get back less than you put in. • While the transfer goes through, your money is out of the market. If markets rise then, you'll miss out. • Your planned £1,500 monthly gross withdrawals from March 2027 represent an initial withdrawal rate of 7.25% of the amount invested after the initial fee. Withdrawals at this level may not be sustainable if investment returns are lower than expected, particularly if markets fall early in retirement; the illustrated withdrawal reduces to £500 a month from March 2032 and will need regular review. • Your recommended ongoing charges, including advice, are illustrated at 1.73% (£4,292.56) in the first year, compared with current charges of 0.97% (£2,432.78) a year. The illustrated figures exclude transaction costs. • Moving your Northfield pension means giving up its lower 0.45% annual management charge, the 0.75% charge cap on its default fund and trustee governance. It includes a yearly review with an updated plan, a check that your income is still sustainable, ongoing monitoring of your investments, and help whenever you need it. Our first review together will be in September 2027 . Next steps 1 Read this report and the enclosed documents, and get in touch with any questions. 2 Sign the application, transfer and expression of wish forms using the e-signature links I'll send you. 3 I'll arrange the transfers. They usually take two to four weeks, and I'll let you know when they're done. 4 We'll speak in February 2027 to arrange your first withdrawal. The small print After your plan is set up you'll get a cancellation notice, and you'll have 30 days to change your mind. If you cancel, your old providers may not take your pension back, and you could get back less if investments have fallen.
